Our new hosting company!
We are happy to say that the transition to MacHighway is complete.
We have been very satisfied with their service since the
transition.
Hopefully you have noticed that the database for your prelim
account is a little zippier! It has been converted from Microsoft’s
SQL Server to a MYSQL database.
What does this mean for non geeks? Well, first the new database
does not require heavy licensing fees so we are saving money.
Second, using Microsoft’s database was like using a eighteen
wheeler to take the kids to school. While it can get the job done
it was too big and too slow. We simply did not use 75% of the
features.
The best part about all of this? (well for me anyway) MacHighway is
wind powered! RenewableChoice Energy is a partner of MacHighway and
provides the power for the servers, network centers, and MacHighway
offices.
I certainly did not know that such green options were out there.
Now that I know, I will be keeping an eye out for carbon neutral
service providers.
If anyone knows of a paper company that is progressive in helping
advance recycling or renewables, please let me know.
